Country Weddings
What a special wedding and one of the last weddings we did in South Africa concluding a chapter of over 300 weddings in and around Durban. Relocating to Perth with all this experience we are now ready to capture couples’ special day.
There’s something wonderfully charming about a country wedding. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Wedding Attire
Given the country wedding theme’s “casual vibe”, you can get away with wearing comfortable clothing. That includes sundresses, light, linen fabrics and eyelet lace for the ladies and casual shirts, khakis or even jeans for the guys. You can also have the wedding party to wear cowboy boots or hats.
Venue, Decor, and Food
A country wedding obviously needs to have a country setting. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, up the down-home ante with hay bale seating for guests. You might even consider having the wedding party arrive via hayride.
For your venue, renting a barn or a farmhouse would be ideal. Use picnic tables and checkered tablecloths. Add ambiance with lanterns, candles, and twinkly lights, and decorate with antiques wherever it’s necessary.
The elements might be casual, but you should unify your color palette for a clearer, more cohesive, modern look. For example, use large groupings of yellow and white daisies as the center pieces with cream-colored tablecloths, and have the bridesmaid wear yellow dresses and carry similarly colored bouquets.
A laid-back country wedding is the perfect setting for a food truck to visit later in the evening after dinner has been served. Your guests will be thrilled to indulge in a tasty, late night snack.
Flowers
Instead of carrying a cookie cutter bouquet of roses, carry a bouquet of wildflowers or sunflowers instead. Put floral center pieces and large arrangements in large, antique pitchers, and put smaller groupings of flowers in mason jars. Mismatched vases are also a quaint touch.
Invitations
Why not embroider your invitation on a country sampler, photograph it, and have it printed on the invitations? If you know a skilled graphic designer, they may also be able to recreate the stitched sampler look.
If you’re doing an engagement photo shoot, take the pictures in a rustic setting like an actual barn, the woods, or similar outdoorsy backdrop.
